I am an Associate Professor at the department of Computer Science at Masdar Institute, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, and a Research Affiliate at MIT Media Lab. I am a Senior Member of IEEE and ACM.

[Masdar Institute was established in collaboration with MIT in 2007, and I have actively contributed to its development since joining in Summer 2008. In 2017, Masdar Institute merged with Petroleum Institute and KUSTAR to form Khalifa University of Science and Technology.]

My current research interests include:

  • blockchain engineering,
  • systems privacy and security (with emphasis on blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and secure smart grid infrastructure and trading),
  • systems architecture (with emphasis on software and sustainable systems such as smart grids), and
  • requirements engineering (with emphasis on strategy and economics).

I lead the Strategic Requirements and Systems Security Group (SRSSG).

Previously, I worked at Lero – the Irish Software Engineering Center and Vienna University of Technology. I received my PhD and MMath degrees in Computer Science from University of Waterloo, Canada; and my double BSc degree (Honors in Mathematics, Honors in Computer Science) from Bishop's University, Canada.
